A perfect Romano Fenati won the Moto3 class Spanish Grand Prix, thus repeating the success obtained last week in Argentina. His match was tactically perfect; despite starting from the fourth row he did not lose heart and by recovering lap after lap he took the lead, resisting the attack of the Spaniards. A race worth remembering and which puts him just five points behind world championship leader Jack Miller, fourth today.

On the podium with him Efren Vazquez and Alex Rins, both on Honda. This is the fiftieth victory in the world championship for KTM. Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini also had a good race, finishing in eighth and ninth position, while Niccolò Antonelli, who fell in the early stages of the race, disappointed once again.

Race report

Fourth meeting of the 2014 season for the Moto3 class, a category where the Italians are once again protagonists, especially after Romano Fenati's victory in Argentina. It runs on the Andalusian track of Jerez de la Frontera, the first European championship. On pole we find world championship leader Jack Miller (KTM), making his third start of the season. In the front row with him our Niccolò Antonelli, rider of the Junior Team GO&FUN, finally back in the top positions after a difficult start to the season and the Honda of the Spaniard Alex Rins.

The second row also has Italian colours, in fact we find Francesco Bagnaia, sixth on the Team Sky VR46 KTM. Further back is Romano Fenati (his team-mate) who will start from fourth with the tenth fastest time. Fifth row instead for Enea Bastianini, second rider of the Junior Team GO&FUN, while Alessandro Tonucci and Matteo Ferrari obtained the 22nd and 31st times respectively. All ready, 23 laps to go for 101.729 km, 25th in the air, 35th on the asphalt. The traffic lights go out, the fastest at the start is Jack Miller, who however is overtaken by Antonelli. The Australian immediately tries to regain his position, but the Team Gresini rider resists. Followed by Isaac Vinales, Efren Vazquez, Francesco Bagnaia, Nicklas Ajo, Alex Ri and Romano Fenati.

Positions change, the first lap ends with Miller, Vazquez, Antonelli, Vinales, Ajo, Bagnaia, Rins, Fenati, Marquez and Kornfeil. The two women on the track, Maria Herrera (wild card here) and Ana Carrasco are in seventeenth and thirty-first position respectively. Eric Granado's race ends, having fallen in the very early stages of the race.

Eleven riders are competing for victory, with our Romano Fenati setting the fastest lap. Vazquez meanwhile takes the Honda of Team SaxoPrint-RTG to the lead, while unfortunately Niccolò Antonelli crashes! The Team Gresini rider seems to have touched Bagnaia. Luckily he gets up and continues the race, but then sadly returns to the pits.

Fenati attacks, taking the lead, but his team-mate Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia, now third, is also going strong. Having reached the halfway point of the race, the winner of the Argentine Grand Prix leads ahead of Alex Rins, Efren Vazquez, Francesco Bagnaia, Jack Miller, Alex Marquez and Isaac Vinales. Enea Bastianini's race was good, twelfth, as was Maria Herrera's, who is following him closely.

At the moment there are eight drivers fighting for the victory; in the order of the standings Rins, Fenati, Vazquez, Bagnaia, Miller, Kornfeil, Marquez and Vinales. A battle that will most likely only have its epilogue at the last corner.

Speaking of retirements, to recap we have: Antonelli, Granado, Sissis, Rodrigo, Deroue, Binder and Livio Loi, fourth in the last Argentine GP. The group is splitting up, Fenati is there fighting for the victory, while Bagnaia seems more in difficulty. It is the rider from Ascoli of Team Sky VR46 who tries to put a small gap on his opponents, going for the third victory in the category, the second in a row.

Last KM of the race, Miller seems to be the one in most difficulty, while Fenati continues to lead. The last lap begins, Fenati controls and goes on to win his second race of 2014, moving very close to Jack Miller in the standings. On the podium with him the Spaniards Vazquez and Rins.

Unfortunately in the race report there is a little mistake, the first time Fenati takes the lead, Vazquez lets him pass, avoiding himself, to save his tyres... Good race by Fenati and Vazquez, a little less so by Rins who always seemed to be at the limit, with overtaking that took him and his opponents along, with a little more strategy it would have been better.
