The third free practice session of the Moto3 class at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway saw Maverick Vinales, rider of Team Calvo, excel. The Spaniard, who is riding a KTM, lapped in 1:48.060, a new record on the US circuit.

In addition to setting the fastest lap, the #25 also showed great pace, which from a race perspective puts him among the protagonists, although obviously there are still qualifying sessions to be played.

Behind him was the world championship leader Luis Salom, also riding a KTM, but from Team Red Bull Ajo. His gap from Vinales is 237 thousandths, while his advantage over third place, Zulfahmi Khairuddin, is 127 thousandths. Fourth time for another bike powered by the Austrian engine, the Kalex KTM of Jonas Folger, the fastest of FP1.

Four bikes with KTM engines are therefore in the lead, with the Mahindra of Spaniard Efren Vazquez in fifth position. Closing out the Top Ten are Alex Rins, Jack Miller, Alexis Masbou, Alex Marquez and former Moto2 rider Eric Granado.

The Italians are bad; The best is Lorenzo Baldassarri, seventeenth, while Romano Fenati (second yesterday) is nineteenth. The others are Niccolò Antonelli twenty-first, Matteo Ferrari twenty-third, Alessandro Tonucci twenty-sixth and Francesco Bagnaia twenty-eighth. Thirty-first time for Ana Carrasco, the only woman on the track, who rides the second KTM of Team Calvo
