Moto3 Barcelona, Free Practice 3: Navarro ahead of Antonelli
Positive session also for Romano Fenati and Enea Bastianini
GP of Catalunya Moto3 Free Practice 3 – The riders of the Moto3 class took to the track this morning with a "strange" atmosphere, the memory of Luis Salom, a Majorcan rider of the Moto2 class who lost his life yesterday in a fall at turn 12, is still very fresh. A fall still inexplicable, in a point so fast, but where such serious accidents had never happened in the past.
The "circus" continues, the last to die before yesterday was Marco Simoncelli, who left us in October 2011 in Sepang. Maybe this is right, the riders know what they risk, they know that every time they enter the track they put their lives at stake, even the Salom family has given the OK to continue a weekend that all the Spaniards in particular have been waiting for, Salom included.
As already written yesterday, the circuit has been modified (perhaps belatedly) and now two chicanes slow down the drivers before reaching turn 12.
Every reference was therefore "reset" and the fastest of the Moto3 Free Practice 3 was Jorge Navarro, rider of the Honda Monlau Team, who lapped in 1:54.641.
Behind him, just 52 thousandths of a second behind, was our Niccolò Antonelli, the fastest on Day 1. The Team Ongetta Rivacold rider brought his Honda ahead of that of rookie Aron Canet, Navarro's team-mate.
Fourth and fifth times for Romano Fenati and Enea Bastianini. The riders of Team SKy VR46 and Team Gresini are 0.211s and 0.359s behind respectively.
Also in the Top Ten are Andrea Migno, eighth and Andrea Locatelli, tenth. Rookie Nicolò Bulega set the eleventh time while Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio finished in thirteenth and fifteenth position.
