The 2011 Moto2 season began today. New riders on the track in Valencia, riders who changed teams and riders who remained in the same team as 2010. These and in particular Julian Simon and Stafan Bradl were the fastest with a time of 1'36"7 followed by the British Scott Redding .

Making their debut among others were Michele Pirro and Yuki Takahashi (in the photo) with the Moriwaki of Team Gresini, the brothers Aleix and Pol Espargarò, respectively with Team Pons Tenerife 40 and Speed Up, Bradley Smith with Team Tech3, Max Neukirchner (MZ Racing Team) and Mika Kallio (Marc VDS).

Here are the words of some of the protagonists.

Yuri Takahashi (1'37" 02) “I am very happy with this first day of testing. Even though we didn't make any major changes to the bike, practically using Elias's "setting", I set a better time than the one achieved during the Grand Prix weekend. I feel good on the bike and I managed to have a good feeling despite the low temperatures and the very strong gusts of wind. In short, the first contact was more than positive."

Michele Pirro (1'37" 68) “I immediately had better confidence than in Aragon when I replaced the injured Ivanov. Perhaps the greater distance between the test and the last race in Supersport allowed me not to make immediate comparisons in driving and therefore I was able to tackle the track better. I am particularly satisfied and despite the very strong gusts of wind that limited the work throughout the afternoon, I believe that this return to the saddle was more than positive."

Julian Simon 1.36.70 (46 laps):”I am very happy and excited to have started the 2011 season. Yesterday we achieved the goal and I came second in the championship and this morning I woke up very happy and eager to work. Today we tested new components, in particular the swingarm and frame. They go very well. It's a stiffer frame, personally it works great, the previous one was too soft. The idea is to improve rear traction, because we lose a lot of time during acceleration. Now I feel the bike is more stable. In these tests scheduled before the end of the year we want to do well so that we can develop the bike during the winter, so we will have to gain time in the tests in January and February. It was a pretty tough day with the wind, but I rode consistently in '37, so I'm happy with my pace. In the end I crashed at the second corner, I caught a gust of wind, but it wasn't anything serious."
