The first day of the IRTA tests in Jerez welcomes the Moto 2 riders with heavy rain which affected the tests especially in the second part of the day.

Leading the field of 38 drivers who will take part in the World Championship this year is the Swiss Thomas Luthi, with a time of 1′ 43.802. The Englishman Scott Redding follows with the second fastest time, trailing Luthi by just over a tenth, while Yuki Takahashi ends the day with the third time, about 4 tenths behind the Swiss. The reigning 125cc champion Marc Marquez ends the day in seventh position in 1′ 45.229, while the Thai Ratthapark Willairot, victim of a bad road accident this winter (29th time for him), also finally returns to the saddle.

A fairly positive day for the Italians in Moto 2: Andrea Iannone ended the day with the eighth time in 1′ 45.249, while Raffaele de Rosa placed 11th, Claudio Corti 19th and Mattia Pasini 20th. However, Alex De Angelis did best of all: sixth time for the San Marino driver in 1' 45.128. Simone Corsi and Michele Pirro, however, did not take to the track, probably to avoid taking too many risks on the damp asphalt.

First tests also for the riders who not only changed category, but also World Championship: Max Neukirchner, former team Ten Kate in Superbike, gets the 13th time in 1′ 46.224, while the reigning Supersport champion Kenan Sofuoglu finishes the first session with the 15th time.
