Moto2 Qatar, Free Practice 3: Nakagami confirms himself ahead of Espargarò
Simone Corsi finishes with the fifth fastest time, De Angelis is 8th, Pasini only 24th
The third free practice session of the Moto2 class in Losail saw the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami once again excelling. The Team Italtrans rider stopped the clock at a time of 2:01.480, a time of only 85 thousandths better than that set by the reigning vice-champion “Polyccio” Espargarò, rider of the Team Pons Tuenti HP 40 and riding the Pons Kalex (and author of some off-piste excursions).
Third time for Scott Redding, riding another bike with a Kalex chassis, that of the Marc VDS Racing Team. The British driver who lapped in 2:01.819 precedes the Kalex Pons of Esteve Rabat and the first Speed Up, that of the Roman Simone Corsi. The former Ioda Racing rider is the only Italian rider to provide convincing performances aboard the NGM Mobile Racing Team bike. His teammates Alex de Angelis and Mattia Pasini were more in difficulty, finishing in eighth and twenty-fourth position respectively. Pasini above all seems unable to adapt to the Speed Up, he had in fact also been in difficulty in the winter tests.
Returning to the list of times we find Johann Zarco, rider of the Came Iodaracing Project, with the sixth fastest time. The French rider seems to be taking the measures of Suter, who last year rode a Motobi for Team JiR directed by Gianluca Montiron. Closing out the Top Ten are the Spaniard Julian Simon, the aforementioned Alex de Angelis, Nico Terol and Dominique Aegerter. Reigning Moto3 champion Sandro Cortese put in a good performance, finishing in eleventh position ahead of a revived Toni Elias.
