Moto2 Qatar, Free Practice 1: Kallio ahead of Luthi and Nakagami

At the Losail International Circuit (Qatar) the riders of the Moto2 class also made their debut in the 2014 world championship. 35 riders battled it out, with the Italian colors represented by Mattia Pasini and Simone Corsi (Forward Racing – KLX), Lorenzo Baldassarri ( Team Gresini – Suter) and Franco Morbidelli (Team Italtrans – Kalex). With the flag of San Marino there is Alex de Angelis, riding the Suter of Team Tasca Racing.

The best of this first session was Mika Kallio, who brought the Kalex of the Marc VDS Racing Team ahead of everyone with a time of 2'01"146. The Finnish rider preceded the Swiss Thomas Luthi by 116 thousandths, on Suter of Team Interwetten.

Third time for the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami, riding the Kalex of the newly formed Idemitsu Honda Team Asia. The former Team Italtrans rider lapped in 2'01"291, putting the Spaniard Esteve Rabat and the Belgian Team Gresini Xavier Simeon behind him.

Sixth and seventh times for Mattia Pasini and Simone Corsi, both riding the Forward KLX. The two Italian riders preceded the 2013 Moto3 champion Maverick Vinales, the German Jonas Folger and the San Marino Alex de Angelis, who closes the Top Ten.

Lorenzo Baldassarri and Franco Morbidelli instead finished in twenty-fourth and twenty-seventh position.
