Esteve Rabat achieved the best time in the third free practice session of the Moto2 class at Mugello, the last before qualifying which will start at 15pm.

The Spanish driver of the Marc VDS Racing Team stopped the clock at a time of 1:52.694, a time that allowed him to beat the German Jonas Folger by 238 thousandths.

Third time for another Teutonic driver, Sandro Cortese. The Team Dynavolt Intact GP rider preceded the Swiss Thomas Luthi, and the Spaniards Jordi Torres, Maverick Vinales and Luis Salom, the latter two riding the Kalex of Team Pons.

Mika Kallio, (Rabat's team-mate) is eighth and ahead of Schrotter and the San Marino Alex de Angelis. The best of the Italian drivers is Franco Morbidelli, fourteenth with the Kalex of Team Italtrans. The others are Simone Corsi nineteenth, his team-mate Mattia Pasini twenty-second and Lorenzo Baldassarri twenty-fourth. Worth noting are the crashes of Pasini and Vinales, both without consequences for the riders.
