Moto2 – Losail – Alex De Angelis: “Very important fourth place”
Alex De Angelis' season opened with an excellent fourth place in the Qatar GP. A result that rewards all the efforts made during the weekend to develop a MotoBi that has made important and continuous progress. In fact, from the thirteenth time in the first free practice session on Thursday we moved up to the third time recorded in Saturday's warm up which already foreshadowed a race that was all about attack and experienced as a protagonist. Alex opted for a cautious start to minimize the dangers arising from a rather crowded starting grid. His comeback from tenth position was then slowed down by an unusual loss of engine power which the team is investigating.
While Stefan Bradl led a solo race, behind him tteresi fought for the remaining steps of the podium. With grit and determination the Team Jir driver soon joined the group and also took the fastest lap of the race. However, the engine problem did not allow him to be aggressive and grab further positions. Of note is an overtaking on Takahashi on the last lap which allowed him to close the first GP of the season in fourth position. Thirteen very important points in view of the championship which, as we saw this evening, will certainly be hard-fought and full of contenders for the final victory. Satisfied with the result and the entire weekend, Alex looks down at the Spanish GP which will take place in two weeks on the Jerez de la Frontera track.
Alex De Angelis (4th, 40'44.474): “It was a very difficult race because starting from the third row doesn't help and also today we had to deal with a strange problem. The engine wasn't pushing as hard as yesterday, so in the first few laps in the middle of the group it wasn't easy to quickly recover positions. However, I remained calm because I knew that my race pace was good, especially after the significant improvements made in the warm up. Halfway through the race I caught up with the group fighting for the podium and I also recorded the fastest lap, a result that makes me particularly happy and which demonstrates the growth and progressive improvements made in each session of this weekend. Unfortunately, the engine problem didn't allow me to attack the group and overtake as I would have liked; on the straight I lost ground which I then had to make up for in the mixed sector. When I saw that Takahashi had left a small door open I immediately took advantage and gained one last position. This fourth place is very important in view of the championship considering that some title candidates crashed and others finished behind me. Strengthened by the progressive and constant improvements and the many data stored, we will have to continue working to continue development on the path undertaken. I thank the team who went out of their way to make the bike grow and make it more competitive at every turn."
