The second round of the 2011 MotoGP championship began with today's two free practice sessions at the Andalusian circuit of Jerez de la Frontera. The Speed Master team chose to use the day to work on the setting of the Suter MMXI, analyzing the data from the two test sessions to improve the setup previously developed in the official tests in Jerez. In the afternoon session Andrea and his team tried some modifications to optimize the performance of the bike: despite the strong wind on the track, the rider from Vasto managed to set the sixth best time, with a time of 1'44.236, improving the his personal record obtained during the first free practices.

Andrea Iannone, #29 — free practice n.2: 6th in 1'44.236
“This was a difficult day. We tried two solutions, one configuration in the morning and a different one in the afternoon: we expected clear improvements, but we are not completely satisfied. We have made substantial changes which, in reality, have not brought us any concrete benefits and I am not happy about it. The reactions of the bike on the track are not what we would like and we are struggling a bit. All we have to do is work, think and try new possibilities to create the ideal setup. I am convinced that we will be able to find the right way to obtain results that convince us more. Anyway, looking at the lap time, I'm two tenths away from pole today, so it's not bad, but my feelings on the track aren't as positive. I take this opportunity to thank the Suter technicians and my team. Happy 'April Fool's Day' everyone!”
