Moto2 GP Valencia Race – Miguel Oliveira wins the Valencia Grand Prix in the Moto2 class, the last stage of the 2018 MotoGP championship.

Xavi Vierge starts well from the front row, but at the second corner comes the first twist, poleman Luca Marini falls and shortly after Joan Mir slips involving Lorenzo Baldassarri. All three riders ok, but Francesco Bagnaia is also involved in the crashes and manages to stay upright but loses positions. Mattia Pasini takes advantage of this and takes the lead of the race.

But the fight for first position is heated. In addition to the ItalTrans rider and Vierge, the two KTM standard bearers, Oliveira and Binder, and Marquez also enter the battle.

With twenty laps to go Marquez takes the lead ahead of Oliveira and Vierge, with Lecuona moving into fourth position.

Five laps later comes yet another twist in a race made very difficult by the track conditions, Xavi Vierge falls. Only a few laps later the dangers of the track also betray the race leader Alex Marquez, who slips. The Spaniard manages to restart in a sprint, returning to third position ahead of Mattia Pasini. The command of the GP passes to Oliveira.

Miguel Olivira (KTM Ajo) passes under the checkered flag first, ahead of Iker Lecuona and Alex Marquez. For the first time since 2001 a Spaniard does not win a single race in the intermediate category. First career podium for Lecuona.

Off the podium, in fourth position, Mattia Pasini, who after a good start slowly lost ground from the leaders. Behind the ItalTrans rider, Remy Gardner and Fabio Quartararo (Speed Up), author of a great comeback who, after turning off the bike on the grid, started from the back of the grid.

Marcel Schrotter finishes in seventh position ahead of Augusto Fernandez (HP Pons) and Andrea Locatelli (ItalTrans). Simone Corsi (Tasca Racing) completes the top ten.

Francesco Bagnaia (Sky Racing Team VR46), after the contact on the first lap, finished in fourteenth position.

The Valencia Grand Prix also marks the end of the era of Honda engines in the intermediate category. In fact, next year the Moto2s will be equipped with Triumph engines.
