Moto2 Estoril, Qualifying: Bradl surprise poleman, followed by Luthi and Simon

After the riders of the premier class, the Moto2 riders also take to the track in search of the poleman of the Portuguese GP. The session immediately began in an excited manner, with Corti and De Angelis being the first "victims" of a rather difficult track that was still damp from the morning.

In the first qualifying phase, the fastest time is that of the reigning 125cc champion Marc Marquez, followed by Bradl, Luthi and the Italian Michele Pirro. In the meantime, the wet patches on the track still cause falls (Debise, Hernandez, Cardus, Willairot). About halfway through the available time, the Italians improve significantly: Corsi and Iannone are in eighth and ninth position; Pirro also wins the second time, but immediately after the finish line he slips in the same critical point as all the other falls.

Subsequently, Thomas Luthi livens up the qualifying: the Swiss shaves Marquez's time by just 47 thousandths and takes the lead in the standings. In the meantime, the Turkish Kenan Sofuoglu also moves up, while Yuki Takahashi, dominator of the free practices, begins to make some progress. Ten minutes from the end of the session, all the riders take to the track and begin to improve their times: Takahashi is third, while Baldolini takes the seventh fastest time.

Six minutes from the end, the provisional pole goes to the Spaniard Julian Simon, who takes the first time from Luthi. And it is the Swiss who in turn takes the lead of the classification away from the Mapfre Aspar team driver, but surprisingly, on the last available lap, Stefan Bradl turns very fast and leads his rivals by almost two tenths, thus becoming the poleman of the Portuguese GP.
