First day of free practice on the Montmelò circuit in view of the Catalunya GP scheduled for Sunday. Team JiR arrived in Spain with the best intentions and already today we have seen some important progress in the development of Alex De Angelis' official MotoBI. The first session of the morning relegated the San Marino centaur to beyond twentieth position, but gave important ideas to work on for the technicians led by Pietro Caprara, who dedicated the break between the two sessions to applying important changes to the bike. These proved to be effective, so much so that De Angelis was one of the drivers who improved his performance the most compared to the previous session. For him the first day ends with provisional third position with a best lap of 1'47.513, just 140 thousandths behind the provisional leader Simone Corsi.

Alex De Angelis: “The day started badly, I struggled to find confidence and I wasn't able to do better than 26th place. However, I still managed to obtain important information from the bike that I made available to the technicians, together with whom we decided to apply substantial changes by varying the geometries and weight distribution. The guys did an excellent job between the two sessions and I went out for the second session with a very different MotoBI which immediately gave me excellent confidence allowing me to push harder, so much so that I took almost two seconds off this morning's time and I'm now third, less than two tenths behind Corsi. The day is therefore very positive, but the work is not finished: we have found the path that seems right to us but we have to finalize the set up, tomorrow we have work to consolidate performance and I will have to try to do a good qualifying to prepare fertile ground for myself for the race, also hoping that the weather will let us run in the dry like today.”
