Moto2 | GP Jerez Race: Aldeguer dominates, Roberts and Gonzalez on the podium
Sixth victory in Moto2 for the SpeedUp rider, Roberts new leader of the world championship standings
Moto2 GP Spain Jerez Race – Fermin Aldeguer, after the pole position achieved yesterday in Jerez, won the Moto2 class Spanish Grand Prix, the fourth round of the 2024 MotoGP.
At the start the Team SpeedUp driver lost the position to Manuel Gonzalez (Gresini Racing), but during the fifth lap he took the lead of the race and never relinquished it.
The rider of Luca Boscoscuro's team thus achieves his sixth victory in Moto2, the first of the season. On the second step of the podium after a beautiful comeback Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing), who beat Manuel Gonzalez (Gresini Racing) and takes the lead of the world championship standings. An American hasn't led the MotoGP since 2006.
Fourth at the finish line was the winner of Austin Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI), who preceded Albert Arenas (Gresini Racing), Ai Ogura (MT Helmets – MSI) and the best of the Italian riders, Tony Arbolino, seventh with the Team's Kalex Marc VDS.
Closing out the Top Ten are Jeremy Alcoba (VR46 Master Camp Team), Celestino Vietti (Red Bull Ajo) and Somkiat Chantra (Team Asia).
Also scoring points were Filip Salac (Marc VDS), Izan Guevara (Aspar), Zonta van den Goorbergh (RW Racing GP), Deniz Oncu (Red Bull Ajo) and our Matteo Ferrari, Gresini Racing wild card. Among others, Dennis Foggia and Alonso Lopez fell.
As mentioned, the world championship ranking sees Joe Roberts in command with 69 points (not since 2006 with Nicky Hayden had an American led the ranking of one of the three classes of the MotoGP, ed.), followed by Sergio Garcia at 5 points, Fermin Aldeguer at 15 and 23 Manuel Gonzalez.
