Moto2 | Japanese GP Qualifying: Marini wins pole, Baldassarri on the front row
Curious scene with Vinales stopping Marini for a "bar of soap"
Moto2 GP Japan Motegi Qualifying – Qualifying for the Moto2 class at the Twin Ring in Motegi, theater of the Japanese Grand Prix, sixteenth stage of the 2019 MotoGP World Championship, was held on wet asphalt, even though the rain no longer fell after free practice.
At the end of the session someone, like Brad Binder and Remy Gardner, risked using slicks but the choice didn't pay off. The pole position was won by our Luca Marini who recorded the best time with a time of 2:00.985.
For Marini this is the third career pole; Valentino Rossi's brother was the protagonist of a curious "scene". While leaving the pits he was "stopped" by Maverick Vinales, who had noticed that the #10 of Team Sky did not have the "bar of soap" on his suit. The mechanics immediately resolved the problem and Marini was able to take to the track without problems.
Team riders Pons Fernandez and Lorenzo Baldassarri will also start in the front row with the Sky Racing Team VR46 driver.
World championship leader Alex Marquez (Marc VDS) will open the second row where we also find Jorge Navarro on Speed Up and Somkiat Chantra (Team Asia).
Third row for Thomas Luthi (Dynavolt Intact GP), Marco Bezzecchi (KTM Tech 3) and Marcel Schrotter (Dynavolt Intact GP).
Remy Gardner will open the fourth row with the tenth time and will have our Stefano Manzi (MV Agusta Forward) and Enea Bastianini (Team Italtrans) alongside him. Nicolò Bulega will start with the 17th fastest time.
