Dr. Costa leaves: “Goodbye Mobile Clinic”

Claudio Costa, historical figure of the world championship and guardian angel of the riders, leaves the world championship. The news coming from Imola and reported by the online edition of "Il Resto del Carlino" speaks of Costa leaving motorbikes after a life dedicated to his centaurs. Epic feats are remembered, such as the one that saved Mick Doohan from having his leg amputated after a terrible fall at Assen in 1992, a Doohan who then returned to the track by winning five world titles in the 500 class between 1994 and 1998.

Dr. Costa, present at the funeral of Marco Simoncelli, yesterday in an evening organized by the Panathlon Club, focused on the unfortunate rider from Coriano, who died in tragic circumstances in Sepang.

“Today there are no more heroes to manufacture. Up until Marco there were riders who, despite having suffered injuries or fractures, still wanted to race and I did my best. Today it's no longer like that and faced with fractures the rider has to adapt to a longer stop, there are no longer crazy people like Marco. Unfortunately I wasn't at the Sepang circuit and I don't rule out that if I had spent the moments before the race with him perhaps things would have gone differently. Now the heroes are no longer there and the Mobile Clinic, conceived and created way back in 1976, will no longer need me."
