Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Monday 5 July 2004 – The day of testing scheduled for the Ducati Marlboro Team on the Nelson Piquet circuit in Rio de Janeiro concluded positively, where yesterday the 4th place achieved by Loris Capirossi gave the Italian team its best result of 2004.

Troy Bayliss used this test session for a further comparative test with the two engines he used this weekend.
The Australian driver completed 45 laps of the track and performed one long run with the Four Pulse and one with the Twin Pulse. Troy also confirmed the greater ease of driving the Desmosedici GP4 with the Twin Pulse engine, which allowed him to maintain a high pace with less energy expenditure.

Best time today (made with the Twin Pulse engine): 1'50.2

Nineteen laps of the track completed by Loris Capirossi to carry out some chassis and electronics tests. The Italian continued the development and harmony with the new Twin Pulse engine with irregular combustion, which made its positive debut in Assen and confirmed here in Rio to be a sure step forward.

Best time today: 1'50.4

Partially cloudy skies but high temperatures, unusual even for the Brazilian winter (air: 26° - asphalt 33°) characterized the only day of testing scheduled on the Rio circuit. The Ducati Marlboro Team will return to Italy tomorrow.

Ducati Corse's commitment is great at this moment: in fact today, while the Ducati Marlboro Team was working on the Rio circuit, the development team was on track at Mugello with the official test rider Vittoriano Guareschi, who will remain there tomorrow to continue tests on new electronic components.

Next meeting for the Ducati Marlboro Team at Sachsenring (Germany) on 16/17/18 July for the eighth round of the 2004 MotoGP World Championship.
