Also in the second free practice session Hiroshi Aoyama achieved the best time in the 250cc class at the Sepang circuit. The championship leader stopped the clock at 2'07.160, keeping Hector Barbera and Marco Simoncelli behind him by 3 and 5 tenths of a second respectively.

The reigning World Champion, third with his Gilera, is the first of an Italian trio which also sees Mattia Pasini recover up to fourth position followed by Raffaele De Rosa on the other Scot team Honda, fifth ahead of Ratthapark Wilairot and Mike Di Meglio, protagonists yesterday in the only test session on Friday.

Alvaro Bautista was only eleventh after he crashed, Alex Baldolini's 13th time was good on the WTR San Marino Aprilia, while Roberto Locatelli was sixteenth on the other Gilera.
