250cc – Phillip Island QP1 – Lorenzo from another planet

MotoGP times, abysmal gaps placed on opponents. Jorge Lorenzo started the weekend in great style at Phillip Island by grabbing the provisional pole position with the "monster" time of 1'33 ″ 641, edging out no less than 717 thousandths of a second from Hector Barbera, his more direct (so to speak...) pursuer . Lorenzo did not limit himself to controlling his all-time rival from a distance, but decided to inflict almost unbridgeable gaps on the other Aprilias: De Angelis is third at 1"1, Simoncelli (riding a Gilera-painted Aprilia) fifth at 1" 3, Bautista sixth at 1"5.

Domination of the Piaggio Group bikes in Australia, with only Andrea Dovizioso defending the honor of the "others", with a not bad fourth time even if 1"358 from the top. The KTMs, however, were further behind, with Hiroshi Aoyama seventh and Mika Kallio tenth. Speaking of the other Italians, Locatelli is 12th, Lai 19th, Baldolini 21st with Federico Sandi for the last moment of the qualifiers. Taro Sekiguchi's return to the track was good: the Japanese rider, who was seriously injured during the Brno warm-up, is 23rd on the provisional starting grid.
