Mattia Pasini, making his debut with the Paddock GP Racing Team, achieved the best time in the second and final free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. The Rimini native achieved a time of 1'34.021 on his Aprilia, followed in the standings by another Italian, Raffaele De Rosa, who was very competitive with the Scot Racing Team Honda.

The two Italians precede two Frenchmen, namely Mike Di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar Team) and Jules Cluzel (Matteoni Racing), both on Aprilia, while Marco Simoncelli is only fifth, having improved compared to yesterday's difficult test session.

Sixth is Hector Barbera, the fastest in the first session, followed by world championship leader Hiroshi Aoyama who takes 8 tenths of a second from the top. Alvaro Bautista was only tenth, the other Italians behind: Alex Baldolini fifteenth, Roberto Locatelli sixteenth.

The only crash of this session involved the Thai Ratthapark Wilairot, who later got back on the bike.
