250cc – Barcelona – Bautista wins with Simoncelli's crash
Alvaro Bautista wins, Marco Simoncelli flies to the ground. This is the summary of the 250cc in Barcelona, which led the Spanish ex-eighth-litre world champion to his second victory of the season and to a championship leadership strengthened by the mistakes of others, Simoncelli in the lead. “SuperSic” made a mistake on the third lap, slipping in an attempt to keep up with the pace of his rival who had recently passed Barbera and seemed capable of escaping.
A mistake that costs dearly, 25 points today and a share of the potential world championship reconfirmation on a day to forget for the entire Gilera team, with Roberto Locatelli crashing at the end when he was in an excellent fourth position with a podium pace. In his place, the Japanese Hiroshi Aoyama finished alongside Alvaro Bautista, coming back second and passing Hector Barbera on the last lap.
Fourth is Mattia Pasini, Raffaele De Rosa is 9th and Alex Baldolini picks up a few points with 13th position. In the championship Bautista flies, Aoyama follows him closely, Simoncelli (practically caught by Pasini) from afar.
