In his last race in 125 Julian Simon obtained pole position on the Valencia circuit, his seventh of the season. The 2009 champion beat Simone Corsi by just 4 thousandths of a second, who thus returns to the front row with the Fontana Racing Aprilia, also managing to precede the world vice-champion Bradley Smith and Marc Marquez on the grid with the KTM.

Corsi is, unfortunately, the only Italian in the top 10, given that Andrea Iannone was unable to do better than 13th after having been ahead of the Roman driver in the morning's free practice in fifth place. Worse went to Lorenzo Zanetti, 22nd, and Lorenzo Savadori, 27th, while Luca Marconi and Luca Vitali on the Aprilias of the CBC Corse team close the ranking.

However, Webb, Redding and Fagerhaug fell: the Frenchman Jacquet did not qualify.
