125cc Phillip Island, Free Practice 1: Cortese mocks Terol
Sandro Cortese achieved the best time in the first free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix, the third to last stage of the 2011 world championship which will take place on Sunday on the Phillip Island track. The Intact-Racing Team Germany driver won it with a time of 1'38"805, a time 135 thousandths better than that set by world championship leader Nico Terol, who did everything to take first place which however he missed due to the traffic encountered on the track.
Third is team-mate Hector Faubel, fourth is Frenchman Zarco, winner of the last race held in Motegi. The Team Avant-AirAsia-Ajo driver (half a second behind Cortese) precedes the Spaniards Maverick Vinales (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing), Adrian Martin (Bankia Aspar Team) and Alberto Moncayo (Andalucia Banca Civica). Closing out the Top Ten are the two drivers of the Red Bull Ajo MotorSport Team, Danny Kent and Jonas Folger and the Spaniard from Derbi Efren Vazquez.
First of the Italian riders is “Gigio” Morciano, riding the Aprilia of Team Italia FMI. The rider from Anzio precedes the Frenchman Alexis Masbou and his compatriot Manuel Tatasciore on the Phonica Racing Aprilia. Alessandro Tonucci is instead 25th.
