Maverick Vinales achieved the best time in the first free practice session of the Aragon Grand Prix, the fourteenth stage of the 2011 world championship. The Team Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing rider achieved it right under the checkered flag with a time of 2' 00"897, putting him behind his compatriot and world leader Nico Terol and the British Danny Kent by 266 and 650 thousandths respectively.

Fourth went to Efren Vazquez with the Derbi of Team Avant-AirAsia-Ajo; the Spaniard preceded his team-mate Johann Zarco, Alberto Moncayo (Andalucia Banca Civica), Sandro Cortese (Intact-Racing Team Germany) and the Portuguese of Team Andalucia Banca Civica, Miguel Oliveira. Closing out the Top Ten are Hector Faubel (with the second Aprilia of Team Bankia Aspar) and Jasper Iwema, riding the Aprilia of Team Ongetta-Abbink Metaal.

Adrian Martin with the third Team Aspar bike is eleventh ahead of his compatriot Luis Salom and the Germans Jonas Folger and Marcel Schrotter. First of the Italian riders is Luigi Morciano, twentieth on the Aprilia of Team Italia FMI. The other Italians are Francesco Mauriello twenty-second (WTR-Ten10 Racing), Manuel Tatasciore twenty-fifth (replacing the injured Simone Grotzkyj Giorgi aboard the Phonica Racing Aprilia) and Alessandro Tonucci, twenty-eighth on the second Aprilia of Team Italia FMI.
